Queen Bee’s Tea Room™ began, quite simply, with friendship, travel, and a shared love of afternoon tea.

For years, Kathy and Kristy made a tradition of seeking out afternoon tea whenever they traveled together. One such trip took them to Victoria, British Columbia, where they reserved tea at the iconic Empress Hotel. The experience was unforgettable—elegant, immersive, and deeply special. Sitting together in that grand dining room, it felt less like a meal and more like stepping into another time—an experience that was both transportive and celebratory.

In that moment, something clicked.

Both Kathy and Kristy had long talked about building a business together. As they reflected on the magic of that afternoon tea, they realized something was missing closer to home. Having lived in Houston’s Heights neighborhood for more than 20 years, they knew there was nothing quite like this experience within the 610 Loop—or the Heights itself.

The idea for Queen Bee’s Tea Room™ was born right there.

The name came just as naturally. Afternoon tea was brought to the Empress Hotel by Queen Victoria, inspiring the “Queen” in the name. And just as fittingly, Kathy and Kristy share a fondness for bees—and had often been affectionately referred to as “queen bees” themselves. By the time they left Vancouver Island, the name had already been chosen.

From there, the vision moved quickly from dream to reality. Queen Bee’s Tea Room™ was incorporated in July 2024. A historic location in the Heights was secured in March 2025. And in October 2025, the doors officially opened.

Today, Queen Bee’s Tea Room™ is a place where guests are invited to slow down, feel special, and enjoy the timeless ritual of afternoon tea—thoughtfully hosted in the heart of Houston Heights. Every detail reflects the original inspiration: elegance without stiffness, hospitality without pretense, and an experience designed to make every guest feel just a bit like royalty.
